BLOGMAS The Grinch

Merry Christmas Eve! Although I also celebrate Yule, I combine Christmas as part of my Yule celebration (Christmas has major pagan roots, anyway!). We do not include any religious aspect to our celebrations (we are atheists), but still find joy creating holiday memories with our kids. My son is 5.5 and my daughter is 3. They are at a great age to really get the traditions rolling!

Put up Christmas Tree IMG_7269

We usually do this the first weekend in December. We order pizza and blast the Christmas music. If we plan it right, we watch a Christmas movie to mark the beginning of the holiday season. Fun Fact: We use the same fake christmas tree that I had as a child!

Drive around town and watch Christmas lights

Our city has a few neighborhoods that go all out with Christmas lights. We also drive a few towns over to view large park displays

Visit Santa

This is one that most people who celebrate Christmas take their kids to do. We have a special Santa that we have been taking my kids to since my son was a baby.Image may contain: 2 people, people standing, shoes, child and outdoor It is a very authentic looking Santa and even has Mrs. Clause with him.  I love having the same Santa in our picture every year. Unfortunately, this year our city changed things up (without telling us) and not only moved the location of Santa, but did not have pictures available. They even told us the kids could not sit on his lap and had to walk past him and say hi. I was pretty upset about not getting our picture. But I cherish the pictures over the last 6 years. My kids did end up seeing a total of FIVE Santas this year. Here is one.

Matching Jammies

Yes, we are that family. I choose to do this because it is something that I always wanted to do with my family as a kid but we never did. Fortunately, my husband obliges my Christmas spirit and wears whatever I hand him.  Here is the set from last year! Image may contain: 4 people, including Shelbi CN and Max Nunery, people smiling, people standing and beard

New Ornaments

I am a sucker for ornaments. I do not have a designer tree. We our proud owners of the mod podge Christmas tree that is a combination of handmade ornamants and the personalized ones I’ve bought for my family over the years. Each of my kids get an ornament and then we get a family ornament for the year. This is the first year my son asked for his ornament. It shows that the tradition is becoming a fixture in his memories ❤️

Bake Cookies

My husband started this one as he does the baking. He makes cookies from scratch with the kids and they are so delicious!

Elf on the Shelf

Yep. I am one of those moms. But I am very low key about it. I don’t get super creative. I am lucky to remember to move the damn thing let alone stage a big scene for the kids to wake up to. No daily humble brag elf pictures from me. The kids do enjoy it though!

Christmas with Family

We have at least 3 parties we attend during the holiday season. If we are lucky, they aren’t all on the same day. I love doing this but I do hope to create a new tradition in the years ahead where my kids, husband, and myself, stay in our matching jammies all day Christmas and don’t leave the house.

Do you have Christmas traditions you keep with your family? What are some of your favorite Christmas memories? Let me know in the comments!

What is #Project14Lists? Check out the details here! This is list number 5 and Day 6! I missed a day but thats ok because I am in full throttle holiday mode with my family! I didn’t even have time to schedule a post. I will not let myself feel bad about because at this juncture, my blog is purely a hobby and the stats aren’t going to make me or break me.

If you’re reading this, then I am sure you know the struggle of trying to fit a ton of books into your TBR for the year. I didn’t start reading at the pace I am currently reading until the middle of march, so I had even less time to get my TBR downsized. Now, my 2019 book is much larger than this, but these are the books I want to make a priority for 2019 since I didn’t get to them in 2018.

Unfortunately, not every book can be loved. Even if other people love a book, it is impossible for every reader to love it too. But the good news is that we don’t have to take it personal if a person hates the book you love. Some of my most hated books are beloved by  some of my best friends, and thats ok!

So here are my biggest disappoints of 2018. Be warned that there are some very popular and loved books in this list.

By the way, I am loving the schedule post feature. If you haven’t used it yet, I highly recommend it!

Its not that I need any more books but these are the books that I would love to own. I know I will not get them all (if any) but I do know I will be getting some cash and bookstore gift cards. I plan to buy a few with whatever I end up getting.

How I’m Celebrating Yule #Project14Lists

For today’s #Project14Lists, I decided to incorporate a post that I have been contemplating on doing for awhile. Since the first day of Winter Solstice is coming up on December 21st (there’s also a full moon the same night! Eep!), I have been brainstorming ways I want to celebrate the witch’s sabbath, Yule.

Yule is a time of reflection and the Winter Solstice marks the 1st day of the sabbath. It is the darkest and longest night of the year. The sun begins its journey back towards earth. This means that the days will begin to get longer as we draw closer to spring. We say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. There are 12 days in the sabbath (where do you think the song 12 Days of Christmas came from?) so that leaves some flexibility with how you want to celebrate.

The cool thing is that most people already incorporate Yule into their holiday tidings. The Christmas tree, hanging garland, putting up lights, a feast, using red and gold colors, all have roots in paganism. Here are a few things that I plan to do through the week and a half of Yule.

One way that I deal with my anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed, is list making. If you take a look around my blog, you will see that a lot of my posts are already in list format such as (2019 Goals, Best Books of 2018, and Bookish Gift Guide).  Fortunately, I stumbled upon Shealea’s blog That Bookshelf Bitch.  Shealea is the host/creator of this project and I knew I had to join as soon as I saw it. Check out her announcement post here. her post also has some great information about some blogging myths that I enjoyed reading.

The premises of this project is to create a list everyday from Dec.18th-Dec.31st. I am jumping right in with my first list today (like I said, just in time). Here We Go! List #1
